WASHINGTON (Chatnewstv.com) — The United States on Tuesday announced sanctions against 32 entities and individuals across seven jurisdictions for operating procurement networks that support Iran’s ballistic missile and drone production, including for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The action targets entities and individuals based in Iran, China, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Turkey, India, and other jurisdictions.
Thomas “Tommy” Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the Department of State, issued a statement saying the action supports the Sept. 27 reimposition of United Nations sanctions on Iran, citing the country’s “significant non-performance” of its nuclear commitments.
The sanctions are intended to curtail Iran’s proliferation activities that pose a threat to regional stability.
“The United States will continue to use all available means, including sanctions on entities based in third countries, to expose, disrupt, and counter Iran’s procurement of equipment and items for its ballistic missile and UAV programs, which jeopardize regional security and international stability,” the State Department said.
The U.S. called on all U.N. Member States to implement their reimposed U.N. obligations, specifically referencing Security Council resolutions that require them to prevent the transfer of items and technology used in ballistic missile production and conventional arms.
The Department of Treasury carried out the action under Executive Order (E.O.) 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their supporters, and E.O. 13224, which targets terrorist groups and their supporters.
