In a significant development for Nigeria’s power sector, the Geometric Power Plant, an $800 million investment, is set to revolutionize electricity supply in Abia State.
The 188-megawatt power plant, located in the Osisioma Industrial Layout of Aba, is scheduled to be commissioned on Monday, February 26, 2024. The inauguration will be presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Geometric Power Plant is expected to provide 24/7 electricity to nine of the 17 local government areas in Abia State. This development is a significant stride towards improving the power situation in the region, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The power plant project includes the construction of a 27-kilometre natural gas pipeline from Owaza in Ukwa west LGA in Abia State to the Osisioma Industrial Layout in Aba. Additionally, 150,000 kilometres of cables and wires have been installed, and four new power substations have been set up.
The Geometric Power Plant is the only group in Nigeria that will generate and distribute its own power1. This integrated approach sets it apart from other power firms in the country, which either generate or distribute but do not get involved in both.
The commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant marks a new era of reliable and sustainable power supply in Abia State, paving the way for economic development and improved living standards for its residents.
