WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — A Columbia University student whose visa was revoked for supporting Hamas has self-deported using the CBP Home App, while another student was arrested for overstaying her visa, U.S. officials said Friday.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian national pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Planning at Columbia, had her student visa revoked on March 5 for engaging in activities supporting Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. On March 11, video footage showed Srinivasan using the CBP Home App to facilitate her departure from the United States.
Another student, Leqaa Kordia, a Palestinian from the West Bank, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (ICE HSI) in Newark for overstaying her F-1 visa, which expired on January 26, 2022. Kordia had previously been arrested in April 2024 for participating in pro-Hamas protests at Columbia University.
“It is a privilege to be granted a visa to live and study in the United States of America,” Noem said in a statement. “When you advocate for violence and terrorism, that privilege should be revoked, and you should not be in this country.”
The Department of Homeland Security has not disclosed whether additional visa revocations or arrests are expected as part of its ongoing investigations.
