ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — A French passenger aboard an Air France flight was deboarded at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on Wednesday after his disruptive behavior posed a safety risk to other passengers.
The passenger, who lacked a Nigerian visa, was denied entry into Abuja.
Witnesses at the airport described chaotic scenes, with the passenger seen littering the terminal with tissue paper and shouting, “My passport, my passport.” Immigration officials withheld his international passport to ensure he boarded a flight, preventing a potential escape into the city.
“This case has serious security, safety, and diplomatic implications,” said Miriam Anosike, regional head of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s Consumer Protection unit. Anosike sternly reminded Air France staff of their responsibility. “You brought this passenger into Nigeria; you must take him out. He is becoming a liability to the country,” she said.
Tensions escalated when the passenger attempted to leave on a British Airways flight but was deboarded once again for similar unruly conduct. Efforts to fly him out on an Asky Airlines flight on Thursday also failed when he could not provide proof of payment for his e-ticket.
Later, French Embassy officials and a doctor visited him before he was accommodated at a hotel within the airport terminal.
