Today, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), attended the commissioning of the Geometric Power facility, Aba Integrated Power Project (Aba IPP), in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State. He described the project as a landmark initiative that aims to catalyze development in the commercial city of Aba and its surrounding areas.
Obi has been following the project since its incubation stage about 20 years ago and expressed his delight that the vision for the Aba IPP has finally come to fruition. He attributed the success of the project to the unwavering commitment of his elder brother, former Minister of Power, Prof Barth Nnaji, and his team.

The Aba IPP is reported to be Nigeria’s largest and first independent and integrated power utility. When operated at full capacity, it will address the electricity challenges of at least 9 out of 17 local governments in Abia State.
Obi emphasized the critical role of power in development, particularly in the growth of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprise sector, which he described as the engine of growth in any nation. He expressed his conviction that the Aba IPP will contribute immeasurably to the growth and industrial productivity of Aba City and its environs.
He also highlighted the recent steps taken by Governor Otti to re-energize Aba’s immense potential, stating that the Geometric power plant will provide much-needed power to Aba. Obi concluded by expressing his belief that with these kinds of facilities, the journey to a new Nigeria is possible.
