U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they violate allied airspace.
Asked whether he supports such action, Trump replied, “Yes I do.”
He was then pressed on whether he still trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I’ll let you know in about a month from now,” Trump said.
The remarks come as NATO continues to face repeated Russian airspace violations, raising tensions across the alliance’s eastern flank.
