KYIV (CHATNEWSTV) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday vowed to push the war back into Russia, calling on the international community to take stronger action to pressure Moscow into peace.
“The war was brought from Russia, and it is to Russia that the war must be pushed back,” Zelenskyy said in an address Monday night. “They must be the ones forced into peace.”
His remarks came as Ukraine continued rescue efforts in Sumy, where a Russian attack on a school and residential buildings injured nearly 90 people, including 17 children. “Every single day of this war brings loss, pain, and destruction that Ukraine never wanted,” he said.
Zelenskyy also held a military staff meeting to discuss training modernization, psychological support for soldiers, and the expansion of the 18-24 contract program, which recruits young volunteers into combat units. “More brigades will be able to take in young volunteers,” he noted, adding that the initiative would extend to the National Guard and Border Guard units.
Diplomatic efforts were also a key focus. Zelenskyy revealed that U.S. and Ukrainian officials held talks following meetings between American and Russian representatives. “To push Russia toward peace, we need strong moves and strong actions,” he said, emphasizing the need for sanctions, military support for Ukraine, and coordinated international pressure.
“This week, we are preparing substantive work with our European partners on concrete security steps,” Zelenskyy added. “A significant part of Europe is ready for concrete security work – and that’s a good thing.”
