ASARI-TORU, Nigeria — Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike declared Wednesday that his “Rainbow Coalition”—a cross-party alliance of political stakeholders—is positioned to win every elective seat in Rivers State during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a “thank you” visit to the Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Wike stated that the era of traditional party-line friction has been replaced by a unified front under the “Renewed Hope Family.” The initiative was originally established by Wike to mobilize support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
“After Tinubu, the rainbow coalition will produce every elective position in Rivers State in 2027,” Wike told the crowd. “So, if you don’t belong to this rainbow family, forget it.”
The minister argued that Rivers politicians have transcended partisan divisions to prioritize the state’s collective interests. He credited the current benefits enjoyed by the state to the decision to support the Tinubu administration in 2023, promising that “this year will be better than last year.”
Wike praised local community leaders for their “loyalty and the risks taken in 2023,” noting that those efforts are now yielding tangible results.
“Continue on this track and you will continue to reap good results. I assure you that I will stand with you at the appropriate time,” he said.
During the visit, local leaders reaffirmed their allegiance to the minister’s political direction. Onengiyeofori George, chairman of the Asari-Toru council, told Wike that the area remains united under the Renewed Hope banner.
Chief Michael West, who represents Asari-Toru Constituency II in the State House of Assembly, lauded Wike’s leadership and specifically cited the minister’s role in the emergence of an Ijaw governor—the first in the state since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
West emphasized that the constituency remains committed to Wike’s political trajectory, stating that the people “would follow him wherever he goes.”
