ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against seeking a return to power in 2027, warning that those urging him to run were the same politicians who worked against him a decade ago.
Speculation has mounted that Jonathan could make a comeback on the ticket of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, though he has not made any public declaration.
Speaking Monday at a media parley in Abuja, Wike said Jonathan was better positioned to continue his role as a respected international statesman.
“I know Jonathan very well. He enjoys being respected internationally as a statesman and I believe he will continue in that role,” Wike said.
He questioned the motives of those pushing Jonathan to re-enter the race. “People pushing Jonathan — what strength do they have? Were they not the same people who worked against him in 2015?” Wike asked.
The minister cautioned that the PDP must avoid decisions that could deepen internal divisions.
“For Christ’s sake, nobody should create problems for the party,” he said. “When you cause problems, you are the one to blame.”
