KYIV, Ukraine (Chatnewstv.com) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of high-level calls with NATO and European Union leadership to align on a peace plan proposed by the United States, emphasizing the need for a “dignified peace” as rescue crews responded to a deadly Russian strike in western Ukraine.
Zelenskyy spoke with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who expressed condolences regarding the attack on Ternopil. Officials reported that the strike killed 31 people, including six children. Search-and-rescue operations at the site of the tragedy remain ongoing.
During the call, Zelenskyy stressed the urgency of finding a resolution to the conflict.
“Ukrainians, more than anyone else in the world, want this war to end, the killings to stop, and a dignified peace to be achieved,” Zelenskyy said in a statement following the call.
The two leaders discussed diplomatic options currently on the table, specifically focusing on a plan proposed by the American side. According to the President’s office, both parties are prepared to work “swiftly and constructively” to ensure the plan succeeds and are actively coordinating their next joint steps.
Zelenskyy also held calls with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Ukrainian leader briefed his European counterparts on the U.S. proposals and his recent contacts with partners in Washington and across Europe.
According to the readout, the leaders of Ukraine and the EU “value the commitment of the United States and President Donald Trump to bringing the war to an end.”
The parties agreed to work in concert to ensure the proposals evolve into a joint and fully aligned plan.
Diplomatic activity is expected to intensify, with multiple meetings and calls scheduled for the coming days. Teams from Ukraine, the U.S., and Europe are set to work together to finalize the details of the framework.
Zelenskyy thanked Rutte, Costa, and von der Leyen for their continued support and readiness to work in a coordinated manner.
