KYIV, Ukraine (chatnewstv.com) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Thursday with Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna to discuss additional contributions to a U.S.-backed air defense initiative, continued energy assistance and steps to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses amid ongoing Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy thanked Estonia for its support, stressing the urgency of energy aid as Russia continues to target Ukraine’s power infrastructure.
“We are thankful for the energy packages, first of all, the energy support, which is crucial for us amid all these brutal attacks on our energy infrastructure,” Zelenskyy said.
“In any case, we must also remain strong on the battlefield, and that is why, secondly, we are very grateful for all your military assistance packages.”
The two officials discussed further defense cooperation and coordination with partners within the so-called Coalition of the Willing. Zelenskyy briefed Tsahkna on Ukraine’s most pressing needs, particularly the shortage of air defense missiles.
The president highlighted Estonia’s participation in the PURL initiative, which allows Ukraine to purchase air defense missiles from the United States, and said Kyiv needs additional contributions to the program. Tsahkna said Estonia is considering expanding its support.
Tsahkna also underscored Estonia’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, citing recent projects he visited in northern Ukraine.
“For me, these were particularly emotional events, because it is very important to see that these small pieces that we do actually mean a lot,” Tsahkna said.
“And I am sure that we will continue to support you.”
He added that Estonia’s Ministry of Defense has already approved assistance for Ukraine based on Kyiv’s list of priority needs for the year.
The talks also covered diplomatic efforts, including recent meetings involving Ukrainian, U.S. and Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi, as well as preparations for future negotiations.
In addition, Zelenskyy and Tsahkna discussed measures aimed at pressuring Russia toward peace, focusing on finalizing the European Union’s 20th sanctions package and tightening restrictions on Russia’s tanker fleet.
