KYIV, Ukraine — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed coordinated efforts to advance a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine during a phone call Monday, according to Kyiv.
Zelenskyy thanked Macron for France’s continued support, particularly following an online meeting of global leaders on Saturday, co-hosted by Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to discuss aid for Ukraine.
“The number of countries willing to contribute to advancing peace is growing,” a statement from the Ukrainian president’s office said.
The leaders also addressed a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire. Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine had agreed to the plan “immediately,” but that implementation remained stalled due to Russia’s demands.
“For this ceasefire to begin, Russia must stop setting conditions,” he said.
The conversation also focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, a topic where both leaders are aligned.
Zelenskyy and Macron agreed to continue coordinating efforts and maintain close contact with other partners.
