KYIV (CHATNEWSTV) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to peace, stating that Ukraine is prepared to negotiate “as soon as possible” to bring an end to the war with Russia.
“None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.
He expressed willingness to work with former U.S. President Donald Trump, should he return to office, to achieve a “peace that lasts.”
“My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership,” Zelenskyy said.
Outlining possible first steps toward de-escalation, the Ukrainian leader proposed an immediate truce in the air and sea, including a halt to missile strikes, long-range drone attacks, and bombings of civilian infrastructure—provided that Russia reciprocates. He also suggested that the process should begin with the release of prisoners.
Zelenskyy acknowledged U.S. support in Ukraine’s defense efforts, recalling that “things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins.”
His remarks follow a meeting at the White House last Friday, which he described as not going “the way it was supposed to be.”
“It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right,” he said, calling for “constructive” future cooperation with the U.S.
Regarding a pending agreement on minerals and security, Zelenskyy affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to sign it “at any time and in any convenient format,” emphasizing that it would contribute to “greater security and solid security guarantees.”
There has been no immediate response from Moscow to Zelenskyy’s latest statement.
