KYIV, Ukraine (CHATNEWSTV) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday to mark Victory Day and discuss a proposed ceasefire and recent bilateral economic developments.
Both leaders congratulated their nations on the anniversary of Victory Day over Nazism and welcomed the Ukrainian parliament’s ratification of a new Economic Partnership Agreement with the United States.
“The Presidents agreed on the importance of this historic agreement, which opens up many opportunities for both countries,” Zelenskyy’s office said in a statement.
Trump and Zelenskyy also discussed efforts to end the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader informed his American counterpart of the latest battlefield developments and reiterated Kyiv’s offer for a 30-day ceasefire.
“Ukraine is ready for a 30-day ceasefire starting immediately and is waiting for Russia to agree to this proposal,” Zelenskyy said. “By accepting a full and unconditional ceasefire, Russia must demonstrate its willingness to end the war.”
President Trump voiced support for the truce and expressed readiness to assist in ending the conflict.
“President Trump confirmed that he wants to see this war ended and is ready to help,” the statement added.
The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact as diplomatic efforts continue.
