KYIV (CHATNEWSTV) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday urged European leaders to maintain and strengthen pressure on Russia, warning that ongoing diplomatic efforts should not lead to a reduction in sanctions or military aid.
Speaking virtually at the European Council meeting, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for continued military assistance, investment in weapons production, and financial support—including at least €5 billion for artillery shells.
“Your support for Ukraine must not decrease—it must grow,” Zelenskyy said, stressing the urgency of air defense and military aid following Russia’s latest mass drone attacks. According to him, 171 drones struck Ukrainian infrastructure overnight, injuring four children and damaging homes, a school, and an Orthodox church in Kropyvnytskyi.
Zelenskyy also warned against trusting Moscow’s promises, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s commitments mean nothing.
“We must keep pushing Russia toward peace. Together with you, the United States, and other partners, we can do this,” he said.
The Ukrainian leader also discussed a productive conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying their teams are working toward a full, unconditional ceasefire.
Additionally, Zelenskyy criticized delays in Ukraine’s EU accession talks, blaming individual leaders for blocking decisions already agreed upon.
“It’s simply anti-European when one person blocks decisions that are important for the entire continent,” he remarked.
Ukraine continues to push for more weapons, stronger sanctions, and progress toward EU membership, as the war with Russia enters a new phase of escalation.
