Edo State Governor Approves New N70,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

BENIN CITY, NIGERIA – The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has announced a new minimum wage of N70,000 for the state’s civil servants. The announcement was made during the commissioning of Edo state’s new Labour House on Monday, April 29.

Governor Obaseki stated that the much-anticipated minimum wage will come into effect on May 1st, 2024. This decision marks a significant increase in the income of civil servants in the state and is expected to improve the standard of living for numerous families.

The announcement was met with applause from the civil servants present at the commissioning of the new Labour House. The increase in the minimum wage is seen as a reflection of the state government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workers.

Governor Obaseki expressed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of its workers, stating that the increase in the minimum wage was a testament to this commitment. He urged the civil servants to reciprocate the government’s gesture by rededicating themselves to their duties and ensuring the efficient delivery of services to the people of Edo State.

The new minimum wage is expected to boost morale among the state’s civil servants and enhance productivity in the public sector. It is also anticipated to have a positive impact on the state’s economy as it could increase consumer spending and stimulate economic growth.

The announcement of the new minimum wage in Edo State comes at a time when workers across the country are calling for a review of the national minimum wage. This move by the Edo State government could set a precedent for other states in the country.
