Stenbock House, 5 June 2024 – Today, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is on a working visit to Sweden, where she will meet Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and representatives of large Swedish companies. The prime ministers will also attend the Sommarminglet conference for technology companies.
According to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, the focus of the visit will be on strengthening business and economic contacts between Estonia and Sweden. “Estonia and Sweden are both countries with open, flexible, and dynamic business environments. Our economies are closely interlinked. Both countries do well if their economy grows,” said Kallas.
The prime minister said that this is why she will be discussing with representatives of large Swedish companies as well as technology companies today how to focus on boosting the competitiveness of the region and accelerating innovation. (“We see several opportunities for closer cooperation between Estonian and Swedish start-up and technology companies. The defence industry is also an area with great potential, where cooperation with the technology sector could develop and bring to the market innovative products,” said Kallas.
“Our broader goal could be to work together with Sweden and other Nordic countries to create a new Nordic innovation and tech valley in our region,” Kallas added.
The bilateral meeting with the Swedish prime minister will mainly focus on security issues, the upcoming NATO summit, support for Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East. The elections to the European Parliament and bilateral relations between Estonia and Sweden will also be discussed.
