LAGOS, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — Popular Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has confirmed his recent interactions with social media personality Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, regarding Bobrisky’s legal challenges earlier this year.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Falz detailed how Bobrisky solicited financial assistance from him. “Bobrisky reached out to me and asked for N3 million to secure a VIP section at the Correctional Centre,” Falz said. “I made it clear that I would not provide any financial help.”
This clarification follows a letter sent by Falana’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, to Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, demanding the retraction of defamatory statements regarding Falz. The controversial post, shared on social media, implied that Falz had conspired with Bobrisky to influence legal proceedings.
In a letter dated September 26, 2024, Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, stated, “Your publication of September 25, 2024, on your Instagram page contained defamatory statements against our client. To set the records straight, our client never at any point initiated a conversation with Mr. Idris Okuneye.”
The letter provided details of a phone call initiated by Bobrisky on May 4, 2024. “Mr. Idris Okuneye contacted our client requesting a conversation for legal advice,” the letter read. “However, instead of seeking advice, he requested financial assistance.”
According to Falz, Bobrisky expressed his distress and insisted he needed the funds to bribe officials at the Correctional Centre. “I advised him not to pay any officials,” Falz said. “He claimed his lawyers had mismanaged his case by advising him to plead guilty to the charges.”
Falana & Falana Chambers demanded that VeryDarkMan retract the defamatory statements and issue a public apology across all platforms. They warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would lead to legal action for monetary damages.
In a related controversy, a viral video shared by VeryDarkMan featured Bobrisky alleging that unidentified officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanded N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. Bobrisky has denied these bribery allegations. Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.
