CAF President Patrice Motsepe Agrees to Run for Re-Election in March 2025

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has confirmed his decision to run for re-election in the upcoming CAF Presidential Elections, scheduled for March 2025, following widespread calls from key stakeholders within African football.

In a statement released Friday, Motsepe, who has led the Confederation of African Football (CAF) since 2021, said he is responding to persistent requests from several CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents, and other influential figures in African football.

“I am humbled by the continued support from my colleagues and stakeholders across the continent,” Motsepe said. “After deep reflection and numerous consultations, I have decided to offer myself for re-election at the CAF Presidential Elections in March 2025.”

His decision comes after months of speculation about whether the South African businessman would seek another term in office. Motsepe’s leadership has been praised for initiating reforms within CAF and fostering stronger partnerships with FIFA and global sponsors.

A number of football association leaders expressed their approval following Motsepe’s announcement. “Dr. Motsepe has done an admirable job in steering African football through challenging times,” said one West African football official. “We believe his vision will continue to bring much-needed growth and stability to CAF.”

With the elections just months away, Motsepe is expected to gain substantial backing from the CAF membership, although potential rivals have yet to declare their intentions formally.

The March 2025 election will mark a pivotal moment in CAF’s future as it seeks to continue its development of African football, particularly in areas of infrastructure, youth development, and financial transparency.

CAF has not yet announced the full list of candidates, but the spotlight remains firmly on Motsepe as he prepares for another term at the helm of African football’s governing body.
