WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Tuesday, expressing deep concern over escalating conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the State Department said.
“The United States is deeply troubled by the fall of Goma to the Rwandan-backed M23 armed group,” State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.
Rubio urged an immediate ceasefire and called on all parties to respect sovereign territorial integrity. He emphasized that the U.S. seeks a “durable peace that addresses security concerns and lays the foundation for a thriving regional economy.”
