Berlin – VfB Stuttgart have signed defender Luca Jaquez from Swiss side FC Luzern, the Bundesliga club said on Monday in a statement.
“It’s a great opportunity and a great challenge for me to play for VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. I want to repay the trust placed in me with great commitment and performances and help the team achieve the goals it has set itself,” the defender said.
Jaquez signed a contract until 2029 and is expected to fulfill the team’s defensive needs after the departure of Anthony Rouault and Dan-Axel Zagadou’s season-ending injury.
“In Luca Jaquez, we’ve gained another option for our central defence. Despite his young age, Luca has played an impressive number of games at senior level. We’re confident he’ll be able to help us immediately,” board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth said.
The 21-year-old made his Swiss Super League debut in 2022 and went on to make 60 appearances in the country’s top flight. He has made 10 appearances for his country at youth level and has recently become a regular fixture in Switzerland’s under-21 squad.
