TALLINN, Estonia (CHATNEWSTV) — Estonia’s Prime Minister Kristen Michal on Saturday hailed the Baltic states’ long-awaited disconnection from Russia’s electricity grid, calling it a “historic day” for the region.
“Welcome to Estonia on this historic day, @DanJoergensen,” Michal wrote on X, referring to the European Commissioner for Energy.
“The Baltic states have successfully disconnected from Russia’s electricity grid. Everything is going as planned.”
The transition, backed by the European Commission, marks a major step in the Baltics’ energy independence, severing decades-old ties with Moscow’s power system.
Michal emphasized that work continues to increase critical infrastructure resilience, as Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania synchronize with the European grid.
