Administrator Samantha Power Addresses Donor Governments on Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

In a virtual gathering today, Administrator Samantha Power led a discussion among representatives from donor governments to address the pressing humanitarian situation in Gaza during the current humanitarian pause. Notable participants included representatives from Australia, Canada, Denmark, the EU, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Administrator Power shared updates on the United States’ ongoing efforts to intensify humanitarian aid during this pause, and participating donors outlined their respective governments’ contributions to critical humanitarian assistance.

Key points of discussion included the immediate need for sustained life-saving aid to civilians in Gaza and the importance of Israel taking all possible measures to safeguard civilian lives. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Israel while strongly condemning Hamas’s acts of terrorism and brutal attacks on Israeli civilians.

Administrator Power elaborated on the U.S. commitment of $100 million in humanitarian funding for the West Bank and Gaza, an initiative announced by President Biden on October 18. This funding is dedicated to providing essential support, including clean water, food, hygiene assistance, medical care, and other necessities, to displaced and conflict-affected individuals. The Administrator expressed gratitude for the contributions of donor governments and urged continued and increased support from the group.
