The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of plotting to rig elections.
The party revealed that the PDP plotted to rig the local government councils’ election scheduled for today, Saturday.
Barrister Ibrahim Tuktur El-Sudi, the state chairman of APC, alleged that the PDP had devised plans to compromise the elections, utilizing the State Independent Electoral Commission and security operatives to tilt the exercise in its favor.
“The PDP is desperate to win the elections at all costs through vote-buying, intimidation, using the officials of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), and security agencies,” he claimed.
El-Sudi called on APC supporters throughout the state to stay calm and turn out in large numbers to vote for the party’s candidates at all levels.
In response, TSIEC chairman Dr. Philip Duwe reiterated the Commission’s commitment to creating a level playing field for all candidates, regardless of their political affiliation.
The state police command, represented by its spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, stated that the Commissioner had warned the police to abstain from actions that could disrupt the success of the election.
As of the time of filing this report, voting materials had not been transported to polling units across Jalingo, the state capital, and its environs.
