Former President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for his performance since his assumption of office on May 29, 2023.
During a meeting with the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale, and members of the management team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari stated, “I thank you very much for coming. I very much appreciate it. I thought Tinubu has done very well. Nigeria is so complex. Really, there isn’t much anybody can do.”
In response, Mr. Adeniyi thanked the former president for his unprecedented role in supporting the NCS Act 2023. He also commented on the legislative milestone that grants the NCS expanded authority to implement policies aimed at bolstering revenue generation and facilitating trade, thus contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth trajectory.
Mr. Adeniyi also briefed on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives regarding the trucks conveying food items seized at the border areas. He said, “I will also use this occasion to brief you on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives that all trucks off food carrying exports across borders that were seized by Customs be returned to the traders with the hope that they would plough them back into the Nigerian markets.”
However, Buhari’s comment is believed to be in contrast with the reality many Nigerians are grappling with. The Tinubu administration has been widely criticised for the hardships faced by many Nigerians due to some economic policies introduced by his government.
