Agency Report –
Eleven people were injured when a transport vessel collided with a ferry on the Elbe river in the northern German port city of Hamburg, the fire brigade said on Monday.
One person sustained life-threatening injuries, a spokesman said near the scene of the accident.
The vessels collided near the Köhlbrand bridge in south-western Hamburg at around 6:43 am (0543 GMT), he said, adding that 25 people were affected by the accident.
The transport ship, a barge, had come loose, but it was initially unclear why.
Barges are flat-bottomed boats that have no drive of their own and are used for the transport of goods on canals and rivers.
Hamburg is a seaport on the Elbe river some 100 kilometres from its mouth on the North Sea. It’s Germany’s biggest seaport and one of the busiest in Europe.
