FBI Releases New Video, Offers $500,000 Reward in Hunt for Capitol Hill Pipe Bomb Suspect

WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — The FBI’s Washington Field Office (WFO) has unveiled fresh evidence and increased its reward to $500,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect who planted pipe bombs near the Republican National Committee (RNC) and Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters on January 5, 2021.

The new evidence, shared on the FBI’s “Seeking Information” webpage, includes previously unreleased video of the suspect placing a bomb near the DNC, updated maps of the suspect’s route, and closeup images of the Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes the suspect was wearing. The FBI now estimates the suspect’s height at approximately 5 feet 7 inches.

“Over the past four years, a dedicated team of FBI agents, analysts, data scientists, and law enforcement partners has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, visited 1,200 locations, reviewed 39,000 video files, and assessed over 600 tips,” said David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office.

Despite these efforts, the suspect remains unidentified. Sundberg stressed the need for public assistance. “The tips the FBI has received so far have helped us advance the investigation, but they have not led to identifying the suspect. We urge anyone with information to take a fresh look and contact us,” he said.

The bombs, discovered in Capitol Hill’s residential and commercial areas near the RNC at 310 First St. SE and the DNC at 430 South Capitol St. SE, were planted between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m., just hours before the January 6 Capitol riots. While the devices did not detonate, authorities warn they could have caused significant harm or fatalities.

Sundberg added, “This was a dangerous attempt to harm our community, and we are committed to holding the individual responsible. If you recognize the suspect or their clothing, or if you have any relevant information, now is the time to come forward.”
