Salzburg, Austria – Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl is not giving star players Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala a deadline by when they must decide on their future at the club.
But Eberl also said on Monday night after Bayern’s 6-0 win in a friendly at Red Bull Salzburg that clarity is needed at a certain point.
Germany captain Kimmich is among players including Alphonso Davies, Mannuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Leroy Sane whose contracts expires after the season. Musiala has a deal until 2026.
Keeping Musiala and Kimmich is a top priority for Bayern but Eberl said that Bayern have not issued a deadline.
“I never spoke of any kind of ultimatum along the lines of, now it’s Christmas, now the players have time to think and then they have to say yes or no. I never said that. I never said that, nor would I,” Eberl said.
At the same time, “at some point in the coming weeks and months, there must of course be clarity for everyone involved,” Eberl added.
“We will continue to press ahead with this. We will continue to talk with the players and agents. And of course we want to have decisions at some point.”
Eberl said that any questions about the future of players should not cause unrest during the second half of the season where Bundesliga leaders Bayern want to win titles again after missing out last term.
“We all have an interest in making this season the best it can be. At the end we have to have a handshake and move on. Or you get the statement, listen, sorry, but I don’t want to. Then it’s okay – and we’ll deal with it,” he said.
Eberl meanwhile dismissed speculation that Bayern could be interested in Spain midfielder Dani Olmo, whose future at Barcelona appears uncertain because the club have not managed to register him for the second half of the season.
“We are not really looking at this,” Eberl said.
