Musiala hopes for good outcome from contract negotiations

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is hoping for a good outcome from the negotiations to extend his contract with the German record champions of the football Bundesliga.

“Let’s hope so! Talks are ongoing, that’s all I can say,” the 21-year-old told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newpaper in an interview.

His current deal with Bayern runs until summer of 2026, but board member for sport Max Eberl has already said they would like Musiala to become the face of the club.

“It’s an honour, Bayern is one of the greatest clubs in the world. For me it’s about having fun, working, getting better, hopefully winning games and titles, but also not putting too much pressure on myself,” he said.

Asked about which moment has stuck in his mind this year, the midfielder mentioned the quarter-finals exit against Spain at the Euro 2024 tournament on home soil in Germany.

The fact that his shot goalwards in the penalty box was deflected by Marc Cucurella in extra-time but no penalty was awarded bothered him for a while.

“I couldn’t get it out of my head for a while. I didn’t understand the referee’s decision,” he said.

English referee Anthony Taylor waved play on and the video assistant did also not intervene. The score was 1-1 at the time and eventual champions Spain went on to win 2-1.
