NECO Expands Global Reach, Accredits More Foreign Schools for Exams

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has granted accreditation to additional foreign schools for conducting the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Azeez Sani, announced the development in a recent statement. According to Sani, the newly accredited institutions are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea.

“NECO Accreditation Team visited the schools to assess their readiness to write the SSCE and BECE,” Sani said. He added that the team carried out inspections of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities to ensure they met NECO’s standards.

“After a thorough evaluation and comprehensive assessment, the schools were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status,” he noted.

Sani emphasized that this expansion signifies NECO’s dedication to offering quality education and assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“With its expanding global presence, NECO is poised to become a leading examination body in Africa, offering opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise, thus contributing to the advancement of education in Africa and beyond,” the statement read.

In related news, NECO confirmed that candidates are currently sitting for the ongoing SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic. “The UNHCR School, Diffa, Niger Republic is the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria,” Sani added.

Candidates now take NECO examinations in countries including Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia, marking a significant step in NECO’s global educational outreach.
