ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — The Nigerian government has formally submitted all necessary documentation to Finland for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator accused of inciting unrest and promoting terrorism, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa confirmed Tuesday.
“All necessary documentation and legal requirements for Ekpa’s extradition have been forwarded to Finland for review,” Musa said during an interview on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-In-Review program.
Speaking on the arrest of the separatist leader, Musa added, “Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken.”
Ekpa, who has used social media to advocate for the violent secession of southeastern Nigeria, was arrested in Finland in November 2024 along with four others. Finnish authorities allege his involvement in terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and financing terrorism.
The Lahti District Court subsequently ordered Ekpa’s remand, citing probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
