Following last minute preparations to get Nigeria’s men’s 4×100m relay team gain qualification slot for the World AthIetics Championship in Budapest, the Gambian relay team have arrived to ensure their victory.
Before the arrival of the Gambians, combined team of Nigerian Coaches namely Tony Osheku, Endurance Ojokolo Akpeki, Gabriel Okon and supervised by the AFN technical director Samuel Onikeku were seen putting Athletes through some baton exchange tactics and speed work inside the main bowl of Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba.
The Gambians who flew in through Abuja airport enroute Delta State may have a herculean job on hand as Nigeria is in dare need of a team that can push Nigerians towards qualification to the 2023 World AthIetics Championship in Budapest next month.
Looking so agile and physically fit for the odious assignment, the Athletes that comprised of Favour Asher, Alaba, Godson Brume and others appear eager for the task ahead.
On the sidelines watching the training include, AFN president, Tonobok Okowa, former AFN President Solomon Ogba, Journalists, some coaches and Athletes.
Ahead of the 2023 Warri Relay Grand Prix, the Benin Republic team first arrived followed by others.
Understandably, this year’s event is being held in honour of the former Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Sports In Africa (SCSA) late Dr Awoture Eleyae who passed away last week.
The event will also afford the Team Nigeria men’s 4×100 relay team another opportunity to secure their place in forthcoming World Athletics championship in Budapest.
The Nigerian Team had severally failed to qualify for the championship in Ghana, Yaba Technology, Togo and Benin Republic.
The race in Warri is an event with 5 countries competing in the 4x100m, 4x400m and mixed relays.
