Retired General Killed During Armed Robbery Attack

A retired Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Uwem Harold Udokwe, has been killed by suspected armed robbers in Abuja.

The late Brigadier was attacked at his Sunshine Homes estate by armed robbers at around 3am on Saturday.

He was reportedly killed during the attack.

Following the untimely demise of the deceased, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, ordered a discreet investigation.

He gave the order in a statement by SP command spokesperson Adeh Josephine, which was conveyed to journalists on Saturday.

According to her, the CP ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

He said the Commissioner of Police, who expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, assured the public of speedy justice and all possible efforts to ensure that the perpetrators of such a heinous act are apprehended and brought to justice.

“Furthermore, the Police Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to expanding the security landscape of the nation’s capital, continually adapting strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities,” he said.

Josephine, however, assured the public that further updates on the incident will be provided in due course.

Additionally, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, Air Commodore SA Zakari (Retd.), confirmed his death in a statement.

The statement read: “Brigadier H Udokwere rtd N/5575 15th Regular was attacked early in the morning at his home in Abuja.

According to the wife, three suspected armed robbers attacked the general’s house at about 0300 hours on June 22, 24. The house is at 1 Sanga Street, Sunshine Homes next to Kabusa Junction in Lokogoma Abuja. He also said it was the third time they had been attacked.

“He also said that the robbers asked for his jewelry and took his gun. He further said that he heard gunshots.”

Zakari added that a neighbor of the late general said that the armed robbers wounded one of the estate’s guards.

The statement added: “According to Pastor Awe, their neighbor, the robbers injured one of the farm guards. He was taken to Abacha Barracks Hospital along with Brigadier General H Udokwere rtd N/5575, the victim. While the injured guard was receiving treatment at the Abacha Barracks Hospital, the general was referred to the National Hospital, Abuja.

Zakari met Pastor Awe (the neighbor) with the victim’s wife, son and other neighbors. Major Zakari was told that General Udokwere was dead and the body was in the National Hospital mortuary.

“Zakari met the wife, calmed her down and reported the problem to Major General Dr. Okereke. Comd NAOWA Hospital sent an ambulance to recover the body of the late General Udokwere to NAOWA Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

“General Hashim, the neighbor, took the family to his house so that his wife could take care of Mrs. Udokwere. However, Mrs. Udokwere insisted that she must see her husband. She made contact with the Cse Mates (NDA 15th Cse) and Brigadier KA Kareem was tasked with visiting the family, which he did. “The family will decide the next course of action regarding the funeral.”
