ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has rejected allegations by Nigerien military leader General Abdourahamane Tchiani that President Bola Tinubu was complicit in the formation of the Lakurawa terrorist organization, calling the claims “baseless” and unfounded.
In an interview with Radio-Télévision du Niger, Tchiani accused Tinubu of colluding with France to destabilize Niger Republic and alleged that the Lakurawa group, with assistance from foreign forces including Nigeria’s, orchestrated the December 13 attack on the Niger-Benin oil pipeline in Gaya, Dosso Region.
Sani, however, countered the claims in a post on X, formerly Twitter, describing them as “wild conjectures” and urging cooperation between the neighboring nations.
“The specific claim made by the President of Niger Republic about the complicity of Nigeria in the formation of the Lakurawa terrorist group is baseless,” Sani wrote. “For a country whose people have suffered over a decade of kidnappings and bloodshed at the hands of terrorists, it’s inconceivable that such a terrorist group could ever be harbored here.”
He dismissed Tchiani’s accusations as “hollow, superstitious, and an imaginary conspiracy theory lacking any credible evidence.”
Sani emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “The way forward is for Niger and Nigeria to work together in confronting and extinguishing the common threats.”
