A former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has called on Nigerian governors to stop wasting public funds on chartered flights to pay homage to President Bola Tinubu.
He also asked the president to prevent the governors from leaving their states during festive seasons due to heightened security challenges.
Mr Sani, who stated this while reacting to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s, NGF, ‘courtesy visit to Mr Tinubu at his residence in Lagos on Tuesday, lamented that such had both economic and security consequences for the state governments.
In a post on his verified X handle on Tuesday, Mr Sani said such visits add a huge financial burden on the states, stressing that Nigerian leaders should be serious about cutting the cost of governance.
“After these festivities, the President should discourage state governors from leaving their states to ‘pay him homage’.
“First, it’s a huge burden on the states’ finances. The cost of chartered flights and other expenses.
“Secondly, there appears to be a pattern of escalation of security threats during the holiday seasons.
“Let’s be serious about this slogan of cutting the cost of governance,” the former lawmaker wrote.
