LOS ANGELES — Nigerian singer Tems cemented her place in music history Sunday, winning her second consecutive Grammy and her first solo award for “Love Me Jeje” in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Her victory came against a competitive field, including Asake & Wizkid’s “MMS,” Burna Boy’s “Higher,” and Chris Brown’s collaboration with Davido & Lojay on “Sensational.”
The win solidifies Tems’ status as a leading force in Afrobeats and a global music icon.
In another highlight of the night, Matt B, a Chicago-based U.S. artist with Nigerian roots, won Best Global Music Album alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for their project “Alkebulan II”. The album, praised for its poetic journey through African sounds, showcased the depth and richness of the continent’s musical heritage.
