President Bola Tinubu has appointed Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Shinkafi from Zamfara State as the new Permanent Secretary for the ministry.
Alhaji Shinkafi, who has already assumed his duties, met with the ministry’s staff, where he urged them to commit themselves to productivity for national development. Expressing gratitude for the appointment, he called on the staff to collaborate with him to justify the confidence placed in him by President Tinubu.
During the meeting, Alhaji Shinkafi stated, “Anybody that dedicates himself to hard work would be treated as a friend. I am available but not for gossip.” His emphasis on dedication and hard work reflects a commitment to fostering a culture of productivity within the ministry.
Acknowledging the groundwork laid by his predecessor, Didi Walson-Jack, and the directors in the ministry, Shinkafi pledged to build on the solid foundation already in place. He expressed readiness to collaborate with the Minister, Prof Joseph Utsev, and Minister of State, Muhammad Goronyo, to ensure the continued success of the ministry.
Outgoing Permanent Secretary Mrs. Walson-Jack, now redeployed to the Ministry of Education, appreciated the staff for their commitment to excellence and encouraged them to extend their support to her successor.
Alhaji Aliyu Shehu Shinkafi, appointed as Permanent Secretary in 2020, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He has previously served in the ministries of Finance and Women Affairs, and more recently, in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before his new assignment in the Ministry of Water Resources.
The appointment of Alhaji Shinkafi underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to effective leadership and continued development in key government ministries. As the new Permanent Secretary assumes his responsibilities, expectations are high for positive contributions to the nation’s water resources and sanitation sector.
