BerlinĀ – Bundesliga club Union Berlin have parted ways with coach Bo Svensson and his assistants after six months in the wake of poor results.
Union said on Friday that they want a new coach on board when training for the second part of the season resumes next week. Their next match is on January 11 at lowly Heidenheim.
Union started well under former Mainz coach Svensson into the Bundesliga season and were fourth after eight matchdays.
But they are now winless in eight league matches in a slide to 12th and went out in the German Cup against third division Arminia Bielefeld.
Their last outing was a heavy 4-1 defeat at Werder Bremen last weekend.
“After analysing the season to date in detail, we are convinced that a significant change is necessary to reverse the trend,” said Horst Heldt, Union’s managing director of Men’s Professional Football
“We have therefore decided not to continue our co-operation with Bo Svensson, Babak Keyhanfar, Kristoffer Wichmann und Tijan Njie.”
The club said that “a decision on who will prepare the team for the upcoming tasks from January 2, 2025 will be made in the next few days.”
