UBEC Calls for Shift in Teaching Method

The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Hamid Bobboyi, has called for attitudinal change by teachers and school administrators.

Mr Bobboyi made the call while flagging off an intensive training for 195 teachers of smart schools organised by the commission in collaboration with the National Teachers Institute NTI, in Kano.

According to him, the changes are critical factors that would bring about the required quality in the Nigerian education system.

In a statement issued by the UBEC Digital Resources Centre, Mr Bobboyi said the huge investment of the federal government in establishing smart schools would be a waste without the teachers.

“Attitudinal change is necessary, especially in smart schools across the country where the Federal Government had invested heavily to ensure that modern educational technologies.

“These technological tools are widely used around the world and are accessible to learners in Nigeria at the basic education level so as to bring Nigerian learners in line with their international counterparts.

Also speaking, the Director General of the NTI, Musa Maitafsir, stressed, “the importance of training teachers on attitudinal change and expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to train teachers across the country.”

Mr Maitafsir further assured the UBEC of NTI’s readiness to train additional teachers.

On his part, the national coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Bashir Galadanci, stressed the need for attitudinal change on the part of all administrators and teachers in order to ensure the success of the initiative.

He noted that the efforts and commitment demonstrated by the Commission under the leadership of Mr Bobboyi to establish these schools were to advance the overall development of the education sector.

“At the end of the exercise, 195 teachers from all the smart schools across the country were trained. The training locations included Kano, Lafia, Ibadan, and Yola,” the statement added.
