Paris (CHATNEWSTV) – In an ambitious showcase of innovation, Škoda’s French importer has unveiled two electrified restomods based on the classic Octavia models from the 1960s. Dubbed “Voltavia” and “Project X,” these unique creations emerged from the Škoda Retrofit Challenge, a competition that tasked participants with transforming original Škoda Octavias (1959-1971) into fully electric vehicles.
Modern Tech Meets Classic Design
Restomods, which modernize vintage cars with contemporary technology while preserving their classic aesthetic, took center stage in the challenge. Participants were required to achieve a minimum range of 180 kilometers on a single charge while adhering to a strict budget. The result: two radically different visions of the iconic Octavia.
Voltavia: Subtle and Sustainable
Voltavia, created by the e-mobility magazine Automobile Propre, channels a refined approach to electric conversion. Based on the combi body style, its modifications focus on practicality and aerodynamics, with a design that complies with French road regulations.
Sporting Explorer Green paint from the Škoda Vision 7S concept, Voltavia’s understated elegance is complemented by an orange-accented interior. It features a 102-horsepower electric motor producing 220 Nm of torque and includes an electric scooter in the boot for urban mobility.
“Voltavia represents a balance between heritage and progress, blending a timeless design with modern e-mobility solutions,” said a representative from Automobile Propre.
Project X: Radical Powerhouse
In stark contrast, Project X, led by the Turbo TV show team, transforms the Octavia into a high-performance racing machine. Teaming up with W-Autosport and Strate School of Design, the creators reimagined the saloon body, widening it by 40 centimeters and fitting it with a 450-horsepower electric motor capable of delivering an astonishing 1,000 Nm of torque.
The striking Mamba Green exterior from Škoda RS models reflects the car’s aggressive stance. With over 1,000 hours of work invested, Project X exemplifies radical electrification.
“This project demonstrates that electrification can amplify performance without sacrificing character,” said one of the creators.
A Future for Classic EVs
These restomods highlight the potential for classic cars to embrace modern technology while retaining their nostalgic charm. As the automotive industry pivots toward electrification, such projects underscore how legacy vehicles can evolve alongside emerging trends.
With Voltavia and Project X, Škoda’s Retrofit Challenge has proven that innovation and tradition can thrive together, paving the way for future reinterpretations of automotive history.
