Chad’s transitional leader, Succes Masra, has announced his immediate resignation following his defeat to junta chief Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno in the presidential elections just over two weeks ago.
“I’ve just submitted my resignation and that of the transition government, which became irrelevant with the end of the presidential election,” Masra affirmed in a statement posted on his Facebook page, authenticated by his team to AFP.
Masra did not provide further details regarding his resignation or his future political plans. However, having lost the election, it appears he has chosen to step aside to allow the new president and his administration to take charge of the nation’s affairs.
This resignation marks a significant shift in Chad’s political landscape, as the country moves forward under the leadership of Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the son of the late President Idriss Deby Itno.
