UTSUNOMIYA, Japan, May 5, 2024 – The Netherlands (Men) and Australia (Women) have secured their spots in the Paris Olympics following their victories in the second FIBA 3×3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Utsunomiya, Japan.
In the Men’s category, the Dutch team seized their second opportunity to secure a spot in Paris, defeating Lithuania in a 19 – 15 final. The Dutchmen showcased a well-rounded game, maintaining a lead over the Lithuanians with significant contributions from Arvin Slagter and Jan Driessen. Worthy De Jong was awarded MVP honors, leading the competition in scoring and player value with 42 and 59.0 respectively.
The Netherlands now join the ranks of USA, Serbia, China, and Latvia, who have already qualified for the Paris Olympics.
In the Women’s category, Australia triumphed over Canada in a thrilling 16 – 19 final. Ally Wilson delivered an exceptional performance, sealing the victory with clutch free throws and a decisive block. Anneli Maley was the driving force for her team throughout the tournament, leading the competition in Player value with 34.4. She was named MVP for the event, capping off an incredible run in Utsunomiya.
Australia will join France, USA, China, and Azerbaijan in the Paris Olympics.
