Chongqing, China (CHATNEWSTV) – Nissan Kyoto Automobile Technical College (Nissan Kyoto College) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Chongqing Energy Industry Technician College to launch a groundbreaking program aimed at cultivating globally competitive automotive technicians. The initiative was marked by a ceremony at Chongqing College on Thursday, with Nissan’s joint venture partner, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, donating a Sylphy and a Pathfinder as training vehicles.
“The automotive industry is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by electrification, connectivity, and intelligence,” Isao Sekiguchi, managing director of Dongfeng Nissan, said at the event. “We are honored to support this program, which will develop skilled technicians and promote sustainable growth in the industry.”
The program, spanning up to seven and a half years, will prepare students to take on diverse roles in the global automotive sector. The training includes obtaining Japanese national automotive qualifications, with graduates offered opportunities to work at Nissan dealerships in Japan.
Two-Phase Program
The initiative features a phased approach:
Phase 1: Students will spend three to four years at Chongqing College in a specially created Nissan course, learning basic automotive maintenance and Japanese language skills. Nissan Kyoto College will support the curriculum with specialized courses and field trips.
Phase 2: After completing language training in Japan, students will transfer to Nissan Kyoto College for three years of advanced training. They will gain the Japanese National Second-Class automobile mechanic qualification, including credentials in electric vehicle repair.
The program is supported by Chongqing Xiaosen Foreign Language Training School, known for its expertise in Japanese language education and international study programs.
Industry Collaboration
Dongfeng Nissan’s donation of the Sylphy and Pathfinder underscores its commitment to community development and education. “This is about more than training—it’s about building a future-ready workforce,” Sekiguchi said.
Nissan Kyoto College, known for its innovative approach to automotive education, and Chongqing College, with its robust automotive department, aim to address the global shortage of skilled automotive technicians while fostering cultural and technical exchange.
By combining cutting-edge training resources with hands-on experience, the partnership seeks to bridge the skills gap and contribute to the global automotive industry’s sustainable evolution.
