President Tinubu Appoints Tanimu Yakubu as New Director-General of Budget Office

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Tanimu Yakubu as the new Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation. This follows the expiration of Mr. Ben Akabueze’s tenure.

Mr. Yakubu is a distinguished economist with a robust career spanning several high-profile roles. He previously served as the Chief Economic Adviser to a former President from 2007 to 2010, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007, and Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State from 1999 to 2003.

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Mr. Yakubu’s capabilities, stating, “With his extensive experience and academic background, I am confident that Mr. Tanimu Yakubu will enhance the efficiency and quality of our budget functions, promoting fiscal sustainability, transparency, and accountability in public finance management.”

The new Director-General holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, both from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York.

President Tinubu also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Director-General, Mr. Ben Akabueze, for his dedicated service. “Mr. Akabueze has made significant contributions to our nation’s financial management. We wish him success in his future endeavors,” the President remarked.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, emphasized the administration’s expectation that Mr. Yakubu’s appointment will further national development through improved budgetary processes.

This strategic appointment is expected to drive the Budget Office towards greater fiscal responsibility and economic progress, aligning with the President’s vision for sustainable national development.
