CAIRO, Egypt, June 25, 2023/ — Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a meeting with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, at Al-Ittihadiya Palace on June 25, 2023.

During the meeting, the two leaders warmly acknowledged President Sisi’s State Visit to India as the Chief Guest at the Republic Day celebrations in January 2023, highlighting the positive impact it had on bilateral relations. They expressed their appreciation for the effectiveness of the recently established ‘India Unit’ in the Egyptian Cabinet in fostering bilateral collaborations.

The discussions focused on further enhancing the partnership between the two countries, with a particular emphasis on areas such as trade and investment, information technology, defence and security, renewable energy, agriculture, health, culture, and people-to-people ties.

Prime Minister Modi and President Sisi also explored avenues for increased cooperation within the G-20 framework, addressing issues of food and energy security, climate change, and the importance of providing a unified voice for the Global South. Prime Minister Modi eagerly anticipated President Sisi’s visit to New Delhi in September 2023 for the G20 Leaders Summit.

In a significant development, the leaders signed an agreement elevating the bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership.” Additionally, three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in the fields of Agriculture, Archaeology & Antiquities, and Competition Law.

Prime Minister of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Mostafa Madbouly, and several other senior Cabinet Ministers were in attendance. The Indian delegation included the External Affairs Minister (EAM), the National Security Advisor (NSA), and senior officials.
