ACCRA, Ghana (CHATNEWSTV) — Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, attended the inauguration of Ghana’s newly sworn-in President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Accra.
While numerous heads of state were present for the event, Traoré, who has led Burkina Faso since taking power in September 2022, received a particularly warm reception from Ghanaians. His appearance marked his first visit to an African nation outside of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) since assuming office.
The loud cheering and applause from the crowd highlighted the significance of his visit, underscoring the strong regional ties and the importance of the occasion for both countries.
“Today marks a significant moment in the relationship between Burkina Faso and Ghana,” Traoré said, noting the friendly reception from the people of Ghana. “We stand united as neighbors and partners in Africa, committed to our shared goals of peace, stability, and economic development.”
